Fuck /sci/ I have a math question and either me or the answers is wrong!
The problem is
3^(2x)-(a+2)*3^(x)-a+1=0
a=?, for which there is only one root of the equation.
(english is not my first language, but i guess you understood me, there must be only one X).
Now I put 3^(x)=t
and the above equation is equal to :
t^2-(a+2)t-a+1=0, which has only one answer when either it's discriminant is equal to zero and the doubled root is >=0 (i check the two roots then and one of them is less than zero). The second thing is it's discriminant must be >0 and one of the roots must be <0 and the other one >=0. Now the answers say a=0, a>=1, but when I put a=1, i get t=0, t=3, which both lead to two valid roots.
