Okay so there's something that has been bugging me...

On The God Delusion, Richard Dawkins mentions Alan Turing, the guy who won WWII by developing a computer that could break the Enigma code.

After the war, he was diagnosed as a homosexual and let to rot in a psychiatric ward, where he eventually killed himself with a poisoned apple.

Dawkins cites this as another example of religion destroying the life of a man who's not only innocent, but actually a war hero.

However, the diagnose of Turing wasn't made by religious people - he was locked up because homossexuality was considered a disease by science. So it was actually the misuse of science that destroyed Turing's life, not religion.

Do you agree or disagree? Was Dawkins right or wrong?
