So I was reading up on Venus and came across this proposed NASA rover for it:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automaton_Rover_for_Extreme_Environments

It says it is planned to be powered by a mechanical analog computer in order to survive the Venetian climate. Now I'm not very intelligent, but how the fuck could you accomplish anything of note with a mechanical computer? Aren't mechanical computers huge and only capable of performing extremely simple tasks (bombardier sights, simple calculators, etc.)? How would they be able to perform any kind of serious experiments with only a mechanical computer running the probe?
