So simple - you don’t have to make it geostationary and you don’t need carbon microtubules.
So, /sci/ why are we not doing it?
One immediate benefit which would pay off 500 billion (or less) upfront cost back quickly:
> put solar panels into orbit via space elevator
> beam energy down with a laser
> have virtually limitless energy
