Hey, /sci/entists!
I've got a school assignment to write about a scientist. Not an inventor, specifically a scientist. It can be a scientist of any subject, just as long as he/she's a scientist. I would like to write about someone who's not all world-known-nobel-prize-winning-guy, most preferred someone from the 18th/19th century, who's not too hard to find a lot of information on. Preferred is also if he's researched something we wouldn't have today if it weren't for his formulas/theories.

Now, /sci/, who should I write about? Any and all suggestions are welcome, would appreciate if you could motivate why I should pick that specifical person.
