I have a question /sci/.

The potential difference between two points, a and b, is independent of the path taken from a to b. What does that mean? Isn't more energy required to undertake a longer path? How come it doesn't matter? I cannot wrap my head around this.

I'm doing a physics problem that is giving me a particle A that is moving along the x axis at a height ,y, and a constant speed, and then another particle that starts at (0,0) and accelerates at a constant acceleration, a. I have to find the angle at which they would collide. What equation(s) should I use to find this?
