Essentially, you need to understand how everything your computer does can be broken down into things like loops, conditional branches and data structures. You then need to understand how these things can themselves be broken down into moving data and memory addresses to and from a register and performing very simple calculations on them. Finally you need to understand ow a processor can interpret a string on 0's and 1's as a operation, memory address or number and how it then acts on the result it gets from it.

I get the feeling that the aim of the virus is to far personal info, if it's pulling out random documents. Perhaps the author is hoping to get lucky and pull out something with some sensitive info in it.
