"how many atoms of phosphorus are in 5.60 mol of copper (ii) phosphate?"

I already know the answer (using Avogadro's number), but why can't I use the percentage by mass to figure this out?

Given percentage by mass, Phosphorus is roughly %16 of the compound. Why doesn't taking 5.60 * 6.022*10^23*0.16 work?

My Chem I profressor is going to be putting chemical terminology on all of our tests, so we have to actually learn it. What are some tricks you used to remember the various prefixes, suffixes, etc. There's just so many rules and I'm not good with names to begin with.

Could some of you chemists help me out here. I'm having trouble understanding something. We're doing balancing equations here, and while I understand that, I don't understand the equations themselves. For example, combining Magnesium with Oxygen for Magnesium Oxide: Mg(s) + O_2(g) = MgO(s)

I know this isn't balanced yet, but my question is, if we're combining Magnesium and Oxygen, why is it O_2(g) and not O(g)? And further more, depending upon the first questions answer, I may ask why is the result MgO(s) and not MgO_2(s)?

Is this something they can't explain now? Or is it something I've looked over?

I have a theory about the first one, that for some reason Oxygen is represented as a molecule in the air rather than the element itself. If that is the case, then I'm still left with question 2.

Do we exist on a 3 dimension plane or a 4 dimensional plane?
