yes! I'm just an undergrad transferring to cs from physics. I've done a Ng's and Hinton's MOOCs, started entering in kaggle competitions and reading papers.

artificial intelligence for humans: deep learning for neural networks is a great textbook. up to date with modern techniques and with clear explanations and code examples. would recommend.

paper i found interesting (but didn't quite follow all of it): http://jmlr.org/proceedings/papers/v37/gregor15.pdf..

also what geoff hinton says about hierarchical coordinates is super interesting, though I don't really understand a lot of it.
