would you want to turn a nozzle off though? Wouldn't that cause the adjacent nozzles to have some room to flare sideways to the gap? Can't you just connect plumbing like so so that if engine 2 failed, it's nozzles are still getting supplied by the other engines, only overall thrust of each nozzle is reduced (unless you throttle up to compensate)?
