>That feel when my only two friends aren't picking up the phone when you try to call them.

>That feel when I haven't seen the girl I'm smitten with in months.

>That feel when I want to become a math/science whiz to make up for my social shortcomings, but spend more time watching YouTube videos and browsing 4chan than reading my textbook collection.

I'll think I'll go to my study desk and pop open my physics textbook now.. Here's one extremely short story I have:

>Six years ago
>Seventh Grade
>Florida public school
>Social Studies teacher puts on a video of a documentary on the scientific revolution
>State how Galileo discovered that without air resistance, objects fall at the same speed.
>Entire class other than me goes "That isn't true."
>mfw I have no face to describe it.

>First of all we define and measure things. Then we can look for explanations and form theories.

Which is why IQ is not a measure of intelligence. Intelligence was never defined beyond the completely philosophical. Stuff that arts majors debate. Intelligence is therefore not quantifiable. An IQ test is thus a measure of IQ, and nothing more. IQ measures a tiny area of cognition. The only people who put a lot of faith in it are mathematical scientists, because it's a convenient number that looks reliable.

There is nothing wrong with applying "the same kind of reasoning" to both fields, but similar reasoning in physics is far more basic than in psychology, because psychology and neuroscience data have more "noise" interfering with measurement and analysis. You have to be particularly careful about defining in psychology, and if you need proof of that look at the rate of fraud and misconceptions among psychologists.

This is also why sample sizes are so large in psychology, and why data analysis is such a chore, because everything can bias the mind.

No, and for two reasons:

1. I am in neuroscience, not psychology.
2. No it won't.

While popular science articles and videos are hardly proof of advancement, your complaints brought these to mind.

These are all things that happened within the last year or two. Also keep in mind that in biology, as in any other science, one minor discovery can lead to hundreds more.

Avoid psychiatry like the plague. Study psychology and/or neuroscience and then go into grad school. Psychology is if you want the development and shaping, as well as profiling of our behavior, neuroscience is for the more physical aspects of the brain. Where does behavior itself come from, where do we store things, how can we use our brains to do more things.

You can do a lot with a neuroscience degree, speaking educationally. As Holmes found out, the job market for just a B.S. in neuroscience is pretty terrible.

However, it's pretty versatile for grad school. Common grad programs after a neuroscience B.S. are: neuroscience (obviously), chemistry, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, microbiology, genetics, biology (general), psychology, and medical school (usually neurology or psychiatry, but in med school you can go into anything you want as long as you do well enough).

Just realize that you're going to need to go to grad school to get decent jobs or research positions. Also make sure you're interested in it.

What I'm trying to say is that as long as you're in a biological science, you've got a lot of options.

Good luck! And also my sympathy because my brother is also currently studying biology.
