So /sci/, do you actually want to get smarter and increase cognition?

Cool, so drop all the "what should I study to be smarter" nonsense. Reading books and accruing information won't do a single thing for you.

What you need to increase is fluid intelligence, this will determine how effective and innovative you are in applying acquired information. Someone with higher fluid intelligence will simply out perform you regardless of how much you know.

Besides, who cares about random factoids and memory recall? Absolutely useless in our day-to-day.

The most effective (by far) scientifically proven method to do this is the dual n back.

On an anecdotal level, after using it for about a month my memory improved immensely, which helped a lot at work.

And I began thinking of novel solutions to problems that I KNOW I wouldn't have thought of before, this was most noticeable at work. It was the "creative" faculty improving I guess. Whatever it was, I noticed it.
