Whats the most complex science fiction device you can think of?
My vote goes to pokeballs
Here are the reasons why:

1. They can shrink and grow when you push a button
2. They can turn living into pure energy and save them in a contact space without causing a massive nuclear explosion
3. They can alter the captured creatures mind to obey you
4. They teleport when you have more than six
5. They can heal the creatures inside them by just putting them in a ray machine

And all that technological wonder serves one purpose only.
To capture creatures so you may later use them to fight against each other until either one of them faints
