What does it require from an organism to have the ability to experience pain? It seems to me that even quite simple creatures are able to experience it, ones that have considerably lesser cognitive abilities compared to humans. This indicates that you don't need fancy things like consciousness in order to suffer. So, would it be possible to ever create a computer program that experiences pain?
