How do I tutor someone metric space topology?

I've been trying to tutor this girl for several weeks now (>inb4 beta, she pays me money), and it is really going nowhere. Whenever we meet I explain her the theory and demonstrate some exercises, but when she has to try an exercise herself, she can't. I really have to hold her hand for every single step, and there is no real progression. I'm starting to think I'm just a shit teacher. What do? How to actually teach math to someone?
