You mean "galls".

Former history teacher here. You have a valid point, but what will really be telling about you is how you go about handling it. Yes, teachers should be as free from bias as possible (especially in state-sponsored educational institutions). Don't, however, confuse bias with "perspective".

Advice: Get a small group of concerned students together. Ask for a few minutes during his office hours to approach him about this subject. "Do you think you are being free from religious bias and are teaching us from a proper secular world-view of history?" Would be an excellent, and diplomatic way of broaching the subject. Doing it in his office will give him the opportunity to think and respond without being put-on-the-spot in a classroom. In fact, if you have his email, you and some friends might email him, giving him some time to think and respond academically. Avoid using terms like "unprofessional" or "hurtful" and certainly avoid use of the term "separation of church and state" as it has nothing to do with this.

If he responds negatively, consider taking it to the head of the department, as well as the principal. The idea here is that you're not trying to get him fired, (he probably has tenure anyway) but you're applying PRESSURE to get your teacher to remember not all of his students share his background.

If you do it well, you may well "serve your community" in the way I've described, and NOT made an enemy by being an asshole. Later down the road you might need a sponsor for a club, or a letter of recommendation to some organization or a college, and your history teacher will remember how maturely you handled yourself in this matter. It's good to have allies who respect you. Trust me, I'm an owl.

I've never really bought into this illustration, although it's amusing. How many of you could actually create a viable penicillin vaccine from bread mold? How many of you think you could grind a couple of lenses in order to make a microscope to examine the mold spores?

I'm not saying it's impossible, but without the tools and the procedures, some of these things we take for granted become a little....difficult.

Now, back to my question. Can any of you think of a PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION of mathematics in order to convince the villagers that those weird symbols you're writing (everyone is illiterate remember) is something good and productive?
