How to know which theory is more reliable? For example, you could say that humans have evolved, but you could also say that aliens developed them as robots.

Of course evolution makes far more sense, but often, there are lots of theories and this obviousness isn't very evident.

So how to distinguish pseudoscientific idiotic theories from reliable ones? And how to tell which theory is the most reliable? What mechanisms are used for that in science?
