Sophont is not a niche in and of itself, intelligence is not a niche it is an adaptation. Not all creature in our niche (pack hunter on the plains of africa) evolved advanced intelligence and creatures not in our niche in our environment (Elephants) did evolve intelligence. Convergent evolution also doesn't mean literally the same thing - especially since they have no common ancestry that would result in the two species having the same basic materials to form characteristics. You are the one using circular reasoning since you are saying that since humans evolved intelligence that all creatures evolving intelligence must be the same niche and ancestry as humans.
