Hey /b/, I have a riddle for you. I honestly doubt anyone barring a college will be able to solve it.

You have an unknown number (x), and you double that number (2x). Now, taking the original number, add one to it (x+1). Now, you have one-third of the doubled number (2x / 3 = x+1).
What is the original unknown number /b/?
God. Is /b/ this fucking dumb?

No, I'm fairly sure that I'm using it in the correct sense. You're saying that whatever American physicians say about circumcision doesn't matter because they're clearly biased in its favor. You're not saying anything about the actual content of their argument.

Here's a handy chart to teach you more about logical fallacies.

I like you guys.
Everyone else in here is an idiot.

The OP uses the most obvious Strawman and Personal Incredulity arguments, and everyone else falls right down to ad hominim.

>Art is for retards who think they are creative, but it's the lowest of the low, and does not deserve to be academic. And they'll never be intelligent enough to be comparable with physics or engineering, ever. They just get by because women think it's attractive and neat, the dumb bitches.

From this statement, I can infer that you are a butthurt betamale. Furthermore, you are likely a virgin, or at least trapped in the depths of the "friend zone." A cuckold, if you will.

It was through fields like art & music that led to revolutions in medicine, physics, engineering, electronics, etc.

Leonardo DaVinci, as a painter (you know, one of those lowly art major fags) chopped up, dissected, and made detailed drawings of how the human body is built. This was all done so he could paint more realistic portraits. In the end, he pioneered the field of Anatomy. All so he could be a better faggoty artist, who in turn got laid more than you as a result.

Similar worthless artsy-type subhumans also gave us acoustics - the physics of sound, recording technology, film, technical drawings, architecture, and so on.

Hey /sci/

Looking for textbooks on linguistics/oceanography. Checked sticky, no help. Specifically for oceanography looking for textbook/manual by the AMS or these:

Sverdrup, Keith and Virginia Armherst. Introduction to the World’s Oceans, 10th edition, 2008

Garrison, Thomas. Oceanography: An Invitation to Marine Science, 6th edition, 2006.

Life on the Ocean Planet

Thanks!

Im taking a marine science course and have recently developed an interest in linguistics. I can't really find any good torrents/ebook sites.

Hi /sci/,

Could you recommend some introductory material to Game Theory and general Logic? I'm just someone who likes logic puzzles and logical thinking, so I'd like to go deeper in that.

Thanks.

>So atheists, our modern science can't prove god's existence

Science and atheism are not interdependent, but continue...

>But what if, say 100 years later, God was proven to exist?

Any sensible person following the scientific method would have to reevaluate their position on the topic in light of conclusive evidence. Until such an extraordinary event occurs however, they will rightfully remain skeptical.

hey /sci/ what is your opinion on Philosophy?

Personally I think philosophy is the epitome of academia, considering (for one) that the Greek Scholars, those who essentially founded the principles of science and education, were philosophers.

But what do you think?

So I took an entry level college statistics course (regression, confidence integrals, binomial theorem, etc, etc.) last year. I am considering taking a course on Probability theory because it sounds interesting. What are your opinions on the topic?

ITT: Fun ways to mess with anti-science douchebags

If someone tells you something is bad because it's "playing God," respond that Morgan Freeman played God, so you're in good company.

And I believe this is my last one.
Captchas are a pain, but I hope you guys enjoyed. I'll bump every so often throughout the night for those who don't go past page 1.
