It's a beautiful video. Paranal is one of the most incredible accomplishments of engineering, and it's a magical place to visit. It's finally starting to look extremly large.

It's also rather uniquely one of the few big projects which has stayed on schedule the last few years. On the other hand TMT still hasn't started construction, it broke ground exactly 9 years ago next Monday. I bet they wish they picked a functional country like Chile.

>With all the butthurt it's caused and careers it will destroy in 5 years time
What are you talking about? The only butthurt is the anon around here who can't get over the fact it succeeded, despite his doomer predictions.
>will it be another 50-years+ before the next leap in major project telescopes?
Nope. Lots on the horizon. Europe's Extremely Large Telescope will start operations by the end of the decade (pic related). ELT will have 6 times the angular resolution of JWST, and will be extremely sensitive in spectroscopy. ESA is working on a new x-ray telescope and a gravitational wave mission. NASA will launch Roman and the Habitable World's Observatory (around 2040s).
