I encountered the same situation when I was teaching my student piano. So many different ways of incorporating different methods to teach music theory as well as practical application. And since I'm also a math tutor at one college, the kid's last words to him gave me feels, cause I've experienced that as well. Nothing like being thanked for helping someone become better, honestly. Nothing.
