Hey guys. This is my first post on 4chan. I've been thinking about this for a while now, but basically I just can't ask anyone I know about it, because they won't take me seriously and it'll create conflict. It's desperate to post about this here, but fuck it, I'm anonymous.

I'm an internationally known performer. You wouldn't necessarily recognize my name or face, but you'd very likely recognize the name of the band I play in. I'm not the frontman, so I still have some semblance of a private life a lot of the time.

Here's the situation: I was trained as a scientist. Now I've suddenly found myself in my 30's with more money than I can use and a borderline unhealthy amount of fame. I didn't plan on making a career out of music - I always thought I was going to become a professor or researcher. In the end, I got my degrees and got caught up in the success of my band and the tours and albums and all that and eventually it became my life. Now I'm here.

I don't expect to just step out of music entirely, but the thought that I'm never going to do anything significant for science is hugely depressing, enough so that I've decided I want to try to get back into academics.

But how the fuck would I do that now? Absolutely nobody would take me seriously. I'm posting this on fucking 4chan of all places because I'm so doubtful.

How do you switch gears like that? Could I even get a university job with a 10 year old PhD and no teaching experience outside of the TAing I did as a candidate? Or could I try private research? Would anybody hire a rock musician?
