Why is particle physics so gay?

Can someone explain to me why the speeds of sound and light are constants? (within a controlled environment of course)

Why is it that if i'm moving backwards at 100 mph, then project a light forwards, it isnt moving in that direction at the speed of light minus 100mph?

Also is there a time it takes to accelerate to that speed?

What is a good book to read to explain all this sort of stuff? Also interested in learning about matter, antimatter, all aspects of particle physics

If I were to attempt to teach myself Quantum Mechanics, what other areas would I have to study first?
I've taken Physics 1 & 2 and Calculus 1 - 3.
I'm fairly certain I'd need Differential Equations and Discrete Math, but what else should I know? Could you also provide the order I should study them in?

Is the Higgs boson a gauge boson? Is mass now considered a force along with the four fundamental forces? I'm finding it fucking impossible to find a straight answer.

Hi /sci/. I'm really intrigued by Superconductors but I'm not 100% on how they work. Relatively new to Physics. Can someone explain them and how it led to the locking/levitation of them on set tracks?
