You’re going to laugh at me, but what’s the most realistic way I could go to space in my lifetime?

I’m 25, and about to go back to college (messed up the first time around; was aimless and didn’t even try). I’m going to study physics and astronomy. I then plan to join the Air Force as a pilot before I’m too old.

While in the Air Force I’ll pursue my master’s and hopefully PhD.

You are only allowed to post here if your country has a space program that can get itself into space independently.

when a new soyuz comes out. Russia will never rely on another country to get to space.

We like to use hydrogen, since it has a lower mass and thus a higher exhaust velocity at the same temperature. But why can't we use heavier elements with a slower exhaust velocity just as well? Momentum is mv, so why can't we launch a rocket that pushes out heavy shit very slowly?

So the Russians are so god-tier that they've been launching the same fucking rocket they first designed in 1965, why, just as a ruse to lure us all into a false sense of security? As soon as BFR comes out Russia's going to go "haha by the way we invented FTL travel" and that's it for Musk and the Americunts?

Ahem. Everyone knows the main tool we use to go to space is the R7 rocket?
