Is a PhD a hellish stressful experience or is it not that bad?

>failing internship interviews due to lack of social skills
>lucky to even get those interviews due to being at uni ranked ~40
>most likely won't get a good job by the end of 2015 when I graduate
>thinking of applying to top 3 uni for phd in engineering, solely to delay real life and acquire social skills, and becasue I can't face getting a shit job
>and I'm doing uni at home and all engineering jobs are in my city
>and I hate engineering anyway and uni has been shit
>I get great grades but may be an exam babby

I know uni doesn't really matter for PhD but it does for employment.

What do /sci/? Should I also drop £20 k for a masters at a better uni? Has anyone done anything like these? What were your experiences?
