That's really the result of stagnating wages. Back in the 50s a family could plan to buy an outrageous expensive item, at the time, like a microwave. Today, nobody dreams in that stuff particularly when you have wage slaves. Controlling for inflation , something like a microwave in the 1950s would have costed 12000$ today.

Nobody is going to pay 12000$ today for, say, an automated kitchen robot that could cook for you, and it would never make it into the market, when it has to compete with a very poor paid delivery driver from UberEat.
