Flight plans do not prevent collisions. Competent, well rested pilots in good weather conditions during daylight hours, with functional well maintained instrumentation prevents mid-air collisions. All flight plans do is everything other then prevent collisions, such as letting someone know where to track you down if you never arrive at your destination, or to send someone after you to shoot you down if you get hijacked or are smuggling drugs or persons, or just to simply have a record (beurocracy for the sake of it)
