2012. Although it's been pushed back to 2013, We've brought a lot of new people onboard who can't make the 2012 date. On the plus side, due to unforeseen circumstances we don't need to worry about funding anymore. I don't know who, but we now have two wealthy benefactors.

The 2015 launch will be a permanent colony. I don't have a seat aboard that because the initial module houses only 4 families, and all 4 modules have been spoken for since the project began (founder, his family, families of 3 closest friends.) Modules will be added, slowly, so eventually I do hope to join that community.

Anyway if we could go back to the greentext silly story format it'd be great.

That's my opinion, yes. But the colony that's actually being built will be at 250 feet because the expeditions leader is of the opinion that ambient pressure is an outmoded paradigm that is more trouble than the savings are worth. And apparently he's been approached by the wealthy benefactor I hinted at earlier who is willing to bankroll the 1atm design in the pic.

As a consequence, each new apartment module will cost $150,000 whereas an ambient pressure residence would cost around $35,000. That's the kind of difference ambient vs. 1atm makes. But he believes undersea living only has a future if you can bypass all the decompression and health issues by maintaining a 1atm surface normal environment, and he's the expert, not me.

Living here with any luck, either telecommuting or scrubbing the hull to earn my keep.

>>Btw, are you actually involved in this project/who is doing this project?

I will be one of 152 selected to spend 24 hours aboard a 4 man prototype habitat 25 feet deep in 2012 as a demonstration of the proprietary systems that will later be used aboard the permanent colony. It is hoped that this will attract additional sponsors/venture capitalists beyond the ones already funding the endeavor (mostly scuba companies unsurprisingly)

>>I see that there is some potential but it's not in the housing. Free economics advice right here.

Appreciated but not needed. It's already decided that multiple modules will be set aside as luxury hotel suites, as rented out marine biology labs and so on. Activity like this will supply the income necessary to cover operational costs without raising rent beyond what is reasonable.
