>The word "God" is thrown around way too often, but really a lot of religions don't assume a creator or any intentions, it just tells you about basic laws like "shit dies, other shit is born".
This is your fault. A majority of the worshiped gods in human history are not creator gods. "God" != "creator god". Pick related.

>When you said
>"My perennial favorite is "God / the devil made the universe to look exactly as if it was 13 something billion years old". To which I say "I'm glad we're in agreement". "
>What so you mean by that?

They don't mean it (maybe?), but that's an admission that the universe looks and behaves exactly "as if" the universe is 13.something billion years old, etc. etc. My biggest beef with most religions is that they "make" people believe in falsified nonsense. If they're going to give up their falsified nonsense, then that's fine.

To quibble over "It's not /really/ 13 billion years old vs "it /really/ is 13 billion years old" is exactly like arguing whether we live in the Matrix or the "real" world. It's unfalsifiable either way. I'm a logical positivist w.r.t. this problem - if the material factual distinction is indistinguishable, then you have a meaningless claim.

Of course, there's another level of analysis where I'll call them full of shit for claiming unknowable and meaningless things like "The universe isn't 'really' that old", because they just admitted that it's operationally and functionally indistinguishable and thus meaningless and irrelevant.

I also think the first statement is perhaps the first step to admitting that god is bullshit. If you accept miracles don't happen, then I don't see how a belief in gods can remain. Pic related.

We have solid positive evidence that miracles do not occur. Thus, we eliminated basically any particular named god of Human history - barring the trivial non-interfering deist god.

Yes, I am prepared to call them wrong. A majority (??) are also wrong about evolution - evolution is true.

>It has the most miracles and events attributed to it.
I'm sure I can do better. Here - I believe that I just caused a googol miracles all over the world. Now I have the most miracles attributed to any religion.

>And multiple historians of the time confirm Jesus rose from the dead.
Actually, no, I don't think so. I'm not sure exactly, but you might get multiple "historians" who mention the tomb was empty, but that's a far cry from rising from the dead.

And consider the attached pic. These other religions have about as much evidence as yours.
"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods; you will understand why I dismiss yours."

There's the best way in logical argument, and the best way to convince someone. I know of the first. I don't know of the second.

The simplest argument that really cuts straight to the point is my pic. It's as simple as that.

Can't quite place the fallacy. It's close to ad hominem fallacy or fallacy fallacy.

Also, the fact that there is a bunch of different religions which make wildly different claims, but yet have a similar structure to their beliefs. This is evidence only that humans are amazingly adept at creating a fiction and strongly adhering to it. This is amazing evidence that humans can and do indeed believe such outrageous falsehoods on such a massive and "coordinated" scale without coordination.

If there was, like, only one majority religion, then this argue would not hold. However, there's at least a few dozen (?) massively practiced religions in the world, and at most one can be right.

Thus, we can begin to formulate a reason why all but one must be wrong. We can explain how these people all came to believe these falsehoods. However, the cool thing about this explanation is that it works equally well for the last religion.

I claim that you understand exactly why I reject your god. It is the same reason that you reject Zeus, and Thor.

I've noticed that there is a very sizable portion of anon that actually believes agnosticism is seperate from atheism, rather than a subset of it, or more precisely an incorrect response to a question of belief.

Its very simple to determine if youre an atheist or an agnostic.

Do you currently actively believe in a god or gods? No ?
Then you're an Atheist.
Now you can add Agnostic to it if someone asks you more details, but for all intents and purposes you are indeed an Atheist, in that you do not have BELIEF in a god or gods.

Religion is NOT a question of knowledge, its a question of Belief.

So saying "I dont know" = "no belief"
Since if you dont KNOW god or gods exist, then obviously it is impossible to believe they do.

Therefore you are an atheist in belief of god, and agnostic in knowledge of god.

So agnostic brothers lay down your arms, those among you that are agnostic simply out of fear of being burned in hell, rejoice.
For fire cannot affect you after you die since we know how fire is a chemical reaction, and if the theist tells you the fire is still fire that can still work as a chemical reaction is some netherworld where the laws of science no longer apply, then they are obviously trolling you with MAGIC fire.

Hey /sci/, you're all a bunch of braniacs. where would i go to find clear answers for christian's ignorance?

for example, their praising of jesus and not god, and their insistence that the world is 6000 years old, and that dinosaurs are fake.

has anyone seen any christians try and produce evidence for these? sorry if there's a better place to post this, i figured you could direct me if i'm in the wrong spot
