here is a cg render to better illustrate the angle we see it at, also the side where it spins "toward" us is brighter cause it's flinging photons at us, like spinning a wet ball and water flying off

There aren't any sharp enough features like stars or strands of gas to see a lensing effect. And the angle we are looking at it is pic related. Keep in mind you have to relize this image essentialy has the exposure as low as possible, otherwise it would be too bright and the whole image would be white. The disc and surrounding gas is in-fact dozens of light years wide but the image was "darkened" so it wouldn't blind the scopes and so it would only show the hottest of the hot plasma
