Stupid question time /sci/.

I know the sticky is there for a reason, use it, etc etc, but I am curious about a specific set of mass market math books.

Does anyone know anything about the "<insert math topic here> for Dummies" books? How are they? I have a chance to pick up pretty much all of them (Algebra 1&2, geometry, trig, pre-calculus, calculus and all their workbooks) for like 25 bucks.

Are they worth it? Are they worth the $20 each cover prices?

Thanks in advance.

sup /sci/

I have noticed that i am mentally extremely unflexible: When I consider something (Go position/math task), I quickly lock myself down to very few positions and try to think them through through sheer intellect; in a Go game, this often results in me missing possible moves of my opponent.

If I contemplate the problem for a longer time (and reconsider it after breaks), of course that issue won't be that important anymore (but I also have no idea how that limits my ability to start over with a problem compared to someone else)

How many of you know this? And: Can you give me some tips to avoid it? How do I get the two seconds back when I am initially faced with a problem, before I am strooped with the new issues?

I think having started to play Go might help: It could teach me thinking of other moves without making the problem impossible for me (and thus giving my neural net good training data) because, in the end, there is a very limited number of possibilities I can consider. But maybe this also just teaches me how to bring in all possible moves into the initial consideration, not having any effects on other life-situations?

tl;dr: How do I increase my mental flexibility?
