The thing with c. elegans is that we know the placement of every neuron and every synapse in its nervous system. There is 0.0 variability between different specimens of the species, which makes it relatively very easy to simulate. Pretty much any other species has no genetic blueprint of the brain however, and show developmental as well as adaptive changes in interconnectivity with time. Try uploading that.

For example, take the stomatogastric ganglion of a lobster (see pic). We know how the sucker is wired from top to bottom, but unlike c. elegans we have no fucking clue how it actually works. That's because with complexity of the neuromodulatory system also comes idiosyncrasy in function.

See this fucker? This is a schematic diagram of the stomatogastric ganglion of a lobster. We know how this bitch is wired from top to bottom. It's the same in every lobster; there's 0.00 variability between lobsters. It's encoded 100% genetically. It has a total number of 41 neurons that connect to each other in a set way. Yet, we haven't got a fucking clue of how this thing works. It's a total fucking mystery. A mystery of 41 neurons.

In comparison: the human brain has one hundred billion (100.000.000.000) on average, and there is huge, HUGE variability in both the total number of neurons and the way they're connected to each other between individuals. Our brains are complex motherfuckers.
