Usually, I'd say this has no shot at working, but those billionaire names... I think this has potential. The combined net worth of these guys is more than NASA's budget easily. And they are likely only looking at only asteroid mining, rather than running an entire program with a plethora of things to do. Furthermore, SpaceX has spent under a billion dollars over its existence. So private space companies have been shown to get things done far cheaper than places like NASA.
