Because it's a macroscopic "echo" of the Monad (the singular mathematical object at the root of all reality). Like the shape of a molecule "echoes up" to determine the shape of a crystal, harmonics appear at all levels of reality. When we perceive harmonics, either aurally, visually, or otherwise, we feel "closer to the source" so to speak (you can put your own philosophical spin on that phrase).

In fact, if subatomic physics was first based on quanta instead of waves, instead of firstly waves and then later quanta, then we would have named that new branch of physics "harmonic mechanics" instead of the quantum mechanics we have now.

Anyway, the Hindus touched on this a little with the Om, which you would have heard of as the token meditation chant. They believed that this was the resonant frequency of reality.
