Evolution makes a lot of sense in explaining iterative developments and adaptations to various niches. The principle of selection from a pool of diversity affecting the composition of later generations can be applied to many different fields. Obviously not only biology, but which companies, militaries, nations, and even religions survive over time. If you for whatever reason you don't have kids then you are effectively maladaptive and your genes die out, while the genes of those who do have kids will be more common in the future. Companies which do not expand and grow their profits, will effectively starve and be outcompeted by those that do. Antinatalist religions are outcompeted by natalist religions. This is shown to work empirically through experiments with genetic algorithms.

The alternative where god created an incomprehensibly vast universe and singled out the earth 6000 years ago, made everything seem much older than it actually is, then purposefully designed everything from parasitic wasps to childhood leukemia doesn't make much more sense either.

That said there are still unknowns, such as exact specifics of how the RNA world hypothesis emerged. Humans are also a social species and crave meaning, purpose, and rituals which bind us together. The atheists who think we can remove all religious rituals are naive, people will simply revert to political religions, e.g. Wokeism and Saint George Floyd.

God Himself put in an auto mode so you could let off some steam, but just like everything else you shouldn’t abuse it. If you don’t abuse it it can even be beneficial for your health.

Layman here just getting into how fucked cosmology and astrophysics are currently.

Cosmic inflation theory had three major issues 30 years ago when it started and those problems have never been worse, though some argue that they were never problems in the first place; a case of asking the wrong questions for the right reasons as its produced 30 years of mathematical models that we still shouldn't throw out just yet.

There is a small and growing group of scientists shouting at everyone else PROVE it, basically that inflation and the many worlds interpretation is unfalsifiable and not scientific and the last 30 years have been mostly ad hoc theories.

Then we don't seen to have any idea how old the universe is because the rate of expansion seems to be what ever is covenant for your model because we don't have a mechanism for expansion. Oh and it changes sometimes or can or will... again with no mechanisms.

To top it off we are getting really close to confirming that we'll never be able to test or detect dark matter.

>What chaos is there? To me it is a fantastic, finely tuned machine. How could such a thing come about?
Not him, but the whole chaos and "existence is random" thing is a creationist meme. If it was truly chaotic, I might believe in a creator. It isn't a matter of chaos - it's a matter of inevitability. It's less a magical maelstrom and more a crystal. The only difference between the universe and a crystal, is that the structure is so much smaller and simpler that you can trace all the causes and effects, at least until, much like the universe, ya get down to those levels with hidden variables - even then, you know the laws and the probabilities.

A universe designed for us by an omnipotent and omniscient being would not involve so much of it being hostile to us, empty, and so much of it being redundant. I mean, even if you just look at life on the planet, so much of it looks so much like every other. If there is a divine creator, he's hella uncreative... Or maybe just really gets hung up on that whole two eyes, mouth, nose, and four limbs thing. A universe created by such a being wouldn't need logic to function - it truly would be chaos - everything would just work by the magic of its will. No need for this procedural generation crap we see everywhere.

Now, if the creator is neither omnipotent nor omniscient, that might be more convincing, given what we see around us, but that's just the "we're being simulated by hyperdimensional aliens playing Ultra-Minecraft" argument. While I won't claim there's no one that takes that crap seriously, there's certainly a lot less people that do. Even if it were the case, unless they are just trying to fuck with our minds (as some tinfoils do indeed claim), this universe is just filled with too much anti-life, and is self-destructive to boot - there's no logical reason to make a simulation like that with life as a primary goal. In such a vast machine, we're either a side effect, or play some extraordinarily minor role.

The march for science is a step of a global movement to defens the vital role science plays in our society.

It will tak place the 22nd of April. Please find information regarding this on marchforscience dot com

Specifically this thread is about crowdsourcing ideas for signs to hold up during the march. Please post your ideas for what to write/draw on the signs! Sci humor like suggestions are well appreciated.

Aaaand go!

The universe is really, really big. Bigger than you think. Bigger than you can think.
