Who fucking cares? We know it is NOT so that you can;t go all the way to the South Pole and find out it is not really there, because you CAN in fact buy a ticket and go camp at the South Pole and observe that the astronomical events that happen there, and require you to be at a pole, are real and everything. So whatever the reasons for the treaty, they are nothing to do with hiding the real shape of the Earth.
