The machine you're dealing with, from the instant two gametes combined in a burst of light, quite literally assembled ITSELF from raw material. Largely unassisted. And from birth it has sustained you unassisted through a vast range of environments and demands, and it will continue to do so for 50, 70, 90, 100+ years. Where in all that is there any room for you and your barbaric low level chemical interventions? You've gotta be kidding me. It's absurd. A machine that's intelligent enough to do all that DOESN'T NEED YOU. It's like a child running to the toolbox "this is the one! I'm smart, I'm helping, I know how to fix it!". Ah yes, here's the problem, we need to poison this enzyme system, we need to spur this one along, we need to do this, we need to do that [...]. "

You're treating symptoms. Barring hard mechanical problems and actual genetic diseases (genetic determinism (eg phenylketonuria), not vague correlation and predisposition), it's all diet, lifestyle, and environmental stressors. This religion of thinking you actually udnerstand what you're doing and need to do Mother Nature's work for Her, that the underlying logic that drives the universe shall yield to you and your notions, is ridiculous and delusion. It's grandiose. It's a religion. Mother Nature can manage herself just fine. If you had any brains you'd learn to accept, and work with her. You cannot dominate nature without eventually erasing yourself. It's practically a matter of entropy.

What are you so afraid of? Why are you fighting? Why not just accept what biological systems are? You won't get your patient's body to follow your script, not for long anyway, and not to any proper end.
