I double majored in math and EE in my undergrad. I never studied or took notes in my engineering classes and I got A's in all of them, the math classes like analysis kicked my ass though and I had to study really hard for them. Succeeding in engineering is as simple as knowing how to do calculus well and understanding how to use it for the problem at hand. Sure there is a higher volume of work in engineering, but it doesn't require all that much thought, it's just tedious.
