Just realized that I spent 4 years studying this bullish called mechanical engineering and learned nothing of value. Can you mathchads recommend me a way to get my knowledge on the level of good math undergrad? I want to get into Phd eventually, probably in statistics. Is pic related enough?

Anon, you can do econimemes in your free time. Stop acting like a brainlet. If you want to be a physicist/mathematician, go now to /sci/ wiki fandom and start self-studying

stewart -> intro to proofs -> spivak -> linear alg -> multivar calc -> discrete math

good enough math foundation for CS major?

Why do you want to study math? What's your ultimate goal in terms of career? If you're just studying math for the sake of it, I'd recommend pic related.

For sure. You're always self teaching, it's just about where you get your motivation from. Equipment is important too.

Yo can someone explain how a set can be clopen: closed and open at the same time?

I looked at the definition of an open set, and it made sense. The pdf I was reading defined a closed set = ~open set, and it made sense.

forall x in U | exists e > 0, x+-e in U
exists x in U | forall e > 0, x+-e not in U

Could you also explain how the negation is distributed amongst these operators? For instance, why does the negation affect the forall but not the in in the first part of the expression?

That guy seems to have a fetish for geometry. Geometry is great, but it's not going to get you into modern mathematics as quickly/well. Pic related is a better guide for the sort of things in a basic undergraduate curriculum. Assuming your high school background was strong enough, this should be a good starting point. If you try it and don't feel like your background is strong enough, get Lang's Basic Mathematics and then go back to Calculus.

Last thing to note is that this guide is aimed a people who are most interested in pure mathematics. Stewart (and other Calculus texts) are usually aimed at people who want to apply math in other fields, rather than people who want to do math. This is still ok, you'll want to learn how to begin thinking mathematically before you begin to learn proofs. This is just a warning so you don't get surprised by the shift, it's known to be traumatic.

What books can I read in sequential order to make me a math god?

I've been following this, but don't know how good it is or if anyone else has any other recommendations.
