This is unironically the single greatest problem with modern science and math. Universities are glorified business selling an increasingly half assed product to high school students, and they cut costs by exponentially reducing the amount of full time tentured positions they offer. Publish or perish isn't just a source of stress for post docs, it encourages them to produce as many minimum publishable units as possible for fear of not having their contracts revoked or losing funding.

Not to mention how PhD students in the U.S don't actually get paid to research and have to find their own ranks, but in many universities, still have to yield the rights to their work to the university that did nothing except provide libraries and a committee to put a stamp of approval on it.

Science was better off when only aristocrats and absolute prodidgies were allowed to have a publishable opinion.
