I have yet to hear an argument against just bringing a giant boring machine and tunneling your home into bedrock. Yeah it would suck but it could be for all the personal rooms and storage. Public quarters, laboratories, viewing rooms, etc could be constructed at the surface as need be. I could realistically see pic related happening.
