Since there is a possibility that objects can move as fast as light, if not faster; would time travel be a real possibility?

If you believe it's possible, would you believe it can only be done moving forward in time? If you could move backwards, would that imply alternate dimensions/timelines?

If objects can move faster than light, could that also imply that all things in the universe has some sort of path it follows on a timeline? Meaning, life was planned out almost completely as soon as stuff was created?

I'd appreciate opinions, knowledge, and information.

how scientifically illiterate is our society? I feel like their is so much disinformation and distrust in the science community which leads to fabricated claims with the sole purpose of pushing an agenda. People can be easily manipulated by false scientific claims because they don't know any better.

can /sci/ recommend some good books or literary work related to science and philosophy? I feel like there are so many great scientists and intellectuals that I'm not aware of and need to know about.

BOARD REQUEST
Philosophical/Spirituality Board

I'v been on 4chan for 4 years and have seen people on nearly all board getting caught up in discussions about opinions on science, religion, purpose of life and other topics all pertaining to how the see the world and what it's all about. Some boards are riddled with philosophical and spiritual discussions but there is no board specifically focused on discussing these questions and opinions.

Thing is, EVERYONE has a philosophy they live by. Whether you are religious, atheist, agnostic or spiritual we all have one.

Another thing, not all philosophical or "spiritual" stuff are based on the paranormal and therefore they don't belong in /x/

Doing this will also trim some audience away from the unorganized /x/ and make it more defined. It's kinda unfair that a person who wants to have a deep philosophical discussion only main choices are /b/ and /x/ and few others. The best though is probably /lit/ only because they have a higher percentage of deep thinkers but people don't usually go to /lit/ to talk philosophy.

How it can work:
>No ghost/alien/fringe science shit that belongs in /x/ unless it pertains to why one believes in them and what the implications of believing that are.
>No conspiracy theories.
>No starting a board "preaching" about an Idea.
>No starting a board with loaded questions
>All boards must have a philosophical/spiritual question or theme
>Show respect for opinions or get ignored.
>Blatant trolling when reported results in temporary ban.

Email Moot if you agree this board should be made.

This is a filosophical idea, but I couldn't find a better board to post this in than /sci/.

There are infinite possibilities for how the world could have been, then why is it how it is?

From your point of view, the world have to be as it is for you to be who you are. You would be a completley different person if unicorns existed, therefore they dont exist.

So the answer to the question is that the world is how it is for you to exist and you do only observe the world you exists in.

When time goes, you do not actually learn more about the world... You learn more about yourself. A version of you observing a unicorn tomorrow would not be the same person as you observing something else.

ITT: People who think Psychology is just clinical psychology and Freudian psychodynamics.
While I will admit that the better end of Psychology is mixed with another discipline (Neuroscience) other divisions such as IO Psychology have real world applications.

hey /sci/ need quick help. I had AlCl and put it in a pan with a copper coin (penny). The AlCl bubbled and released gases violently and then went from yellow (AlCl) to very very green. I guessed this was CuCl because it's green, but AlCl + Cu apparently doesn't work. What can it be/how can i test for copper chloride?

tl;dr got green liquid from AlCl + penny. What is/how can I test to see if CuCl?
