Why are people hardwired to suck at probabilities? Is there something inherently broken about probability questions? I have a feeling they might be pure mental masturbation constructs without a real link to logic or empiricism.

Here's an example: suppose Herp and Durp toss a fair six-sided die in turn until one of them wins by getting the first "6". What is the probability that Herp wins this game, assuming he gets to toss first?

I bet most of you will fail. I'll post the answer soon.
