This scientific documentary clearly disagrees with your hypothesis, OP.

>You're just going to say anything is evidence of an afterlife

Strange, I do not consider the hotness of the sun as indicative of the existence of an afterlife. Instead, I consider people in the millions who claim to have actually visited the afterlife while close to death or while actually to be indicative of the existence of an afterlife. I consider the fact that they can see and hear everything around them (and even sometimes things at great distances) during a cardiac arrest to be indicative of a separation of consciousness from the brain. How strange and random, right? And totally just what I want to believe! If I found oblivion comforting instead, this evidence would automagically just disappear xD

>If there was actual evidence it would be mainstream science.

No, because that assumes that we are hyper-rational entities without emotions, that politics and paradigms do not play a role in academia, etc. And none of that is true, as the history of science in the context of its culture has documented again and again.

Many people in academia really are fundamaterialists. I am not saying that jokingly or in a derogatory way, I am saying it as a matter of fact. They simply can not comprehend the notion that materialism itself might be empirically false. You simply can not argue with them either, because the answer to every discussion will always boomerang back to the necessary truth of materialism for them, come what may. It really is, unironically, like arguing with a fundamentalist.

Also, NDE and survival research in general is gaining in respectability every single day, little by little. It is still controversial, but things are definitely changing. Old paradigms and ways of thinking do not go gently into the night, they go kicking and screaming. Science advances one funeral at a time, and the data is overwhelmingly against materialism, but there is usually a generation time gap (or two) between the data and its widespread acceptance.

>why am I simulating some rando douchebag from the early 21st century?

Required basics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsdoJ9x8IBs

tl;dw eternity is really long, and after being billionaires, geniuses, world-champion athletes, sex gods, perfect underdog stories, etc, quattuoroctogintillions of times, you eventually want to experience what it is like to be a loser, suboptimal, the villain, the thief, the junkie, the underachiever, the depressed, the ultranormie, etc.

Also, for what it's worth, we are given a rare opportunity given what is to come. We are living in a pre-utopian world, and millions of years from now we will be looked at as stone-age people are looked at by us now. We are living in a very interesting age, where technology is booming in our civilization for the first time. These are quite literally legendary times.

>This simulation is fucking boring.

Believe it or not, a boring life is seen as something exotic, curious and interesting from the perspective of your higher self. When you're partying like a god while dancing on rainbows, literally, a mundane earthly life might be more exotic than space travel is to us.

Also, this is what waking up from the simulation will be like: http://www.broadjam.com/artists/songs.php?artistID=14702&mediaID=460764

Arguably. First and foremost it means that there is an afterlife, that disembodied consciousness is an empirical fact, etc. We know this with about as much confidence as we know that the dinosaurs existed, as the evidence is about equally good for either.

As for the question of "God", that gets into the discussion about the nature of the afterlife. And if we take all the cumulative NDE testimonies at face value, then yes, there is definitely a creator entity of some kind there. Here is how the person who, as far as I know, has had the deepest NDE ever describes the creator:

”Because of my NDE, I tend to visualize God as a limitless Ocean of infinite, sparkling, colorful Light - whose unconditional Love and beautiful Sound (once it surrounds you) makes you feel completely whole and blissful. There really can be no precise or reasonable human explanation for this feeling. All I can say is that being in the presence of God ... totally encompasses everything that is good and wonderful you have ever wanted to know or experience! And once fully in The Presence ... there is no other place you will want to be. [...] God is actually a genderless entity who represents a limitless Ocean of infinite sparkling Light, Unconditional Love and Beautiful Sound. As you stand before this Personage, immediately you realize that He/She is the One true author of all that exists ... and it can be genuinely said that our wonderful Creator is tremendously pleased with all that has come forth from His/Her Light."

You are currently participating in an existence. It certainly does not seem or feel that way right now, but you were in paradise and you chose to come here to experience what it is like to be a human with qualities X, Y, and Z in this society, in this kind of universe. The multiverse was your smorgasbord of choice and yet you came here. So do not take things too seriously, it is just a game anyway from the meta-perspective.

As for your question of purpose, look at it this way: Imagine that there is an infinitely amazing afterlife awaiting around the corner of a ceased heartbeat, where everyone will be infinitely loved, happy, and can do whatever they want forever.

Now, what is the purpose of that? What is the purpose of enjoying yourself to the maximum forever? Clearly, that is the purpose of any existence - to enjoy it in the widest and deepest sense of the term. And so, the purpose of these lives is also to enjoy them. And while that is sometimes a definite challenge, they are also for that very reason a gift. The person who learns to enjoy existence when they are being tortured, to take the ultimate example, is someone who will explode from happiness in heaven. Be as loving and kind as you possibly can be to anyone and everything, for that is the highest form of pleasure that we are in this nightmare world to become even better at.

Etc. In essence, this reality is a simulation, and we are clearly in the pre-utopian stage of it right now. So just do what you want!

Troll picture. The equation is essentially x/(y+z) + y/(x+z) + z/(x+y) = 4, and not even Wolfram Alpha can find a numerical solution to it.

Try giving say x the value of 0. Then it essentially become y/z + z/y = 4. This is a little bit more solvable, perhaps, but again, not even Wolfram Alpha could solve it, and I don't have patience to check manually.

>Consciousness, despite its odd nature, is intristically linked with the material brain.

Only in everyday life, not in the extremes. See for instance these:

If this argument had any validity to it, then it would be possible to "study" while listening to someone talk while you're asleep. But as all disappointed college students know, this does not work at all, ever. And the brain is vastly more "not paying attention" during cardiac arrest than during sleep.

But let's be generous and entertain the idea anyway. So how exactly do which senses process the information afterward? An irrational skeptic tried to make the same argument in this panel discussion, and it just got impressively embarrassing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPCvuva2deU&t=46m06s (At 46:06- 53:17) Warning: Cringe levels will be high, maybe unbearable.

>You honestly want there to be souls, but there simply are none.

Uhm... >>9702558 Yes there is. You're just not familiar with the mountain of data in favor of it since you implicitly assume from being churned out of the educational system that materialism is true. It's not your fault though, this happens on an industrious scale.
