While middle income blacks do exist in Atlanta, most of the black population is low income. Since the study in Atlanta was on middle income children, there's a good chance they were non-black.
My guess is that they conducted the study at Emory University as Harvard researchers would likely have connections there. If that's the case, pulling children from the surrounding area where families of those working at Emory or the CDC live would net mostly white and Asian children (and possibly some Jews from Druid Hills). But that's a guess so we really don't know the racial makeup of the test subjects.
