What are the odds of satellite debris hitting a passenger jet at cruising altitude?

Dear Christ, I'm imagining how a single plane being taken down would be a Challenger-tier blow to manned spaceflight, perhaps even worse because all spacefaring nations would suddenly have to shelve their exploration plans and replace them with emergency debris management programs that would last decades.

This settles it.

They're actively trying to sabotage manned spaceflight and the space program itself. They want it to be nothing other than a shameless money laundering front that occasionally churns out interesting concepts (which they have no intention of developing) to keep the public fooled.

It's comforting that I'm not the only one with this curse. I feel exactly the same.

Are there any benefits of having an Engineering degree besides the obvious access to engineering jobs/projects?
It's not that I don't like it, but If at the end of road there's a boring office job it just feels like it is a waste of time and energy. Are there any benefits at all? How is this a good time investment?

Hey /sci/ I recently got into Python and soon lifting off into the Tensor Flow lib, I hear to make an efficient self learning AI you need a chip equivalent to the TPU (or IBM's True-North project) chips at Google. Any idea on how to build a "home-made" one? This project will hopefully last me years to come. (note: Coming from C and x86 (Intel) Assembly & some Linux experience)

>Get called by recruiter for elec eng position
>Get like 5 mins into the call, going well, she abruptly stops and asks if I have my degree
>I say no, it's expected in August 2018 (which it says very very clearly on my CV)
>She starts talking very quickly telling me she can't hire people without degrees (??? has she never dealt with students on the verge of graduating before?)
>Hangs up without even letting me get a goodbye in

I fucking hate recruiters, holy fuck
