Bioreactors are definitely feasible, but they can be finnicky as hell. Continuous culture is a bitch. The Russki's did some experiments with closed ecosystems back. From what I can tell, their "phytotrons" which were used for growing staple crops were also tasked also served as life support when the algal reactors weren't in use.
