Had an interview for a psychiatric lab today, no idea how to feel about it. The PI seemed excited that I asked questions she never heard before, and that I looked up her work previously. However, I sort of stumbled through my words while trying to describe my most recent relevant experience, but she seemed really patient with me about it. One question she had for me was a bit alarming though, "How would you feel if someone told you you were doing something wrong and corrected you in a manner that could be seen as condescending?" I answered it correctly but I've never been asked that type of question with the word "condescending" thrown in which is kind of making me tense about what I may encounter if I am hired.

What I'm especially worried about though is that when I was interviewed by a current research assistant, I STUMBLED ON MY WORDS OVER THE SAME TOPIC. I was trying too hard to recollect the same phrasing I settled on with the PI and admitted to being tongue tied to give myself a way to reset, but I don't know if that was right. I also said some cheesy shit about enjoying being in a team environment because it made me feel like I was part of something bigger than myself that's having a positive effect on the world, and I could feel myself internally cringing at how dramatic I was being but couldn't figure out how to shift into another sentence without getting tongue tied again. The smile she had sort of distorted into a grimace she was failing at hiding. When she left and the lab manager came back I said "have a nice break!" because she mentioned trying very hard to wrap everything up so she could enjoy Thanksgiving in peace and she just gave kind of nervous? delayed laughter before saying you too. Everything with the lab manager went great I think, but I'm worried about my stumbling.

I figure some people on /sci/ must have either done or given lab interviews so I'm hoping to get some insight into similar experiences/results but if this is bloggy I'll g2/adv/
