What value does this add over speaking to them in English? I'm sure there are probably old people or people in rural areas that don't speak English, but for the most part "how do I talk to the French?" has already been solved by teaching the French to speak English. Any remaining holes can get paved over by AIs that understand French.

It just seems like learning more human languages is a pointless use of a human's time, outside recreation.
