I broke down a bit today /sci/.

I was accepted into IIT's Post-Baccalaureate program so I could study classes to eventually pull an opportunity in their graduate school programs. In a field of science or related fields. In the 50s this school produced more Engineers than any other school in the world. My grandfather graduated from there in 1951, classes were $15 a credit hour.

Well as of 2011 it's $975 a credit hour, for part time students. Over 15k for full time students a semester with no upper limit on classes.

I work as a bus boy, even with full federal aid I'll only be able to pull around $12,500, all in loans a semester.

After one year in a Post-Baccalaureate program your federal student loans run out.

Which would leave me only able to afford 16 or so credit hours worth of classes for almost $25,000 of debt. There is no help for students not enrolled in one of their standard programs.

I've got 15 of these. I'll tell you what I'm missing when I get to them.

I'm heading towards the end of Year 11 in NZ. Yes, I'm way underage. I'm taking my IGCSEs in Physics, Maths and History, and AS in English Language. I'm looking to get As in everything. I'm going to be taking AS Physics, Maths, History and English Literature next year, and I'm expecting to score well there too. The point is, I'm doing pretty damn well academically.

Now, my question is, if I want to get into a top-tier US university, what extracurricular activities would you recommend? I'm learning Lojban with a friend and I'm starting Salsa dancing on Thursday. Other than that, I haven't done any ECs other than a novice season of rowing a year ago. Any advice? I want to stand out, I want to apply to MIT without being laughed at.
